Group Activities

We start back for 2012 on Thursday 12th January...a weaving day!

Our group shares skills and information on all aspects of spinning, weaving, dyeing, felting, knitting
and crochet.  We aim to increase our knowledge and interest in textiles.  Members use natural
fibres such as wool, alpaca, mohair, cotton, silk etc and often experiment with manufactured and
synthetic fibres (bamboo, soy, tencel etc), either in natural colours or hand dyed, blending for
interesting textures. The group demonstrates its skills at many local events, as well as organising
the Hawkesbury District Spinning and Knitting Competition each year at the

Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association Show.
Many members show off their talents with entries in the local shows at Castle Hill and Hawkesbury

The “Back to Back” was held in June and the Kurrajong team who had been practising for weeks improved their time on last year. About 4000 people came along & many sponsored a team member.   This year our celebrity was Glenn Shorrock from Little River Band and his wife, Jo.  Glenn auctioned off the winning apple pies, as well as some interesting craft items, including a beautiful hand stitched quilt and a “Back to Back” sweater.
The cookbook called “Great Things to do with Apples.” was launched.  As Bilpin is an apple growing area, we have collected recipes from great local cooks and also from other “Back to Back” teams around the world.

While the initial print run of the book sold out, it will still be available if you contact Dawne (details below)

All proceeds for the day went to the Cancer Council NSW (Breast Cancer Research).

Our site raised the most funds for Cancer Research throughout the world.

Keep Sunday, 3rd June 2012 free for the
International Back to Back Wool Challenge.
It will all happen in style again next year at the
Turpentine Tree, 1665 Bells Line of Road, Kurrajong Heights!
Help contribute to raise funds for cancer research.
